The SDA Site was developed by Craig Mitchell, a specialist Web Database Developer. Throughout all Sport the Internet has made a huge difference in providing information to those who compete. The SDA is no exception, we organise races so we need to provide information for competitors to enter as well as many other types of information. As this has developed we have added on-line entry, making it easy for competitors to enter the races they wish to and pay for it how they wish to. Of course behind the scenes, there is a huge Admin side, as we need to provide start times, run lists and after the race show the results as well. This all had to be written from the ground up, so for the techies, it was built in Dreamweaver using ASP and an Access Database, with most of the coding done using Homesite, which is specialist Web Coding software. However, very quickly it was realised that the complexity of the queries and other issues were much safer using MS SQL Server, an industrial strength database. This makes sure the data is correct and safe, and more complex work can be done using SQL Server. One of the benefits of all of this is that in years to come, riders will be able to view their results down the years, even if it is just a trip down memory lane. So like the timing system, investment by the SDA in technology for the benefit of competitors is a major goal, bearing in mind that it is an entirely voluntary committee and all tasks to run a race are done in spare time, it is also a major achievement!
